The district has announced that if Springfield does not act and give CPS an equitable portion of education funding, teacher cuts could come in February. CPS states as much as 1 in 5 faculty members may lose their job if Springfield does not act.
As Principal of Hitch, I am not comfortable with our current teacher to student ratio; I cannot image what Hitch classrooms would look like if we lose 20% of our staff in February.
Lets do our part by contacting legislators to fix this. Go to http://cps.edu/Pages/TakeAction.aspx. There you will find an easy tool to find your state representative and communicate to him/her that we will not accept this.
While it's clear that there have been problems with the way CPS manages some of their funds, that does not relieve the state of their responsibility to equitably fund Chicago schools.
