What an amazing week! In literacy, students were learning how to identify the 5 major parts of a story (character, setting, events, problem, solution). Students had much practice finding these literary elements within various texts. This exercise culmonated with a written summary containing all elements based on a text the class read. Students then presented their summaries to the class, and their classmates offered suggestions for each student to bolster their summary. What a sight to behold!
Please remember that we have our next Book Project due on October 31st. Students should give themselves a solid week to complete this project. Books do not need to be finished to complete the project, however students should be reading their book 20 minutes every night and recording their reading on the reading log.
This week, students have been practicing finding factors and using these factors when multiplying. This weeks project was a culmination of our learned strategies thus far. Students were asked to plan for a Halloween party, researching various items and prices for their party, and using learned math skills to calculate cost and make change. What a fun way to wrap up a successful unit!
As an aside, I have decided to curb the Khan academy requirements. There were various issues with the site as well as students having issues logging in. A similar replacement is currently being discussed within my class. When one is found, I will inform you of the requirements.
1st quarter officially ends Thursday, November 2nd. There are no classes on Friday, November 3rd.
